Using Cloth Diapers While Travelling

Many parents are confident using their cloth diapers at home, but often have questions about using cloth diapers while traveling. With winter get-away season soon upon us, here are some tips we've found useful during our travels:

Many airlines have reduced the number of "free" suitcases included in your ticket price and packing light is essential. Hybrid diapers are advantageous as they reduce the number shells you need to pack since the shells are reused several times before washing and they have the option of using either cloth or disposable inserts. We've sometimes used disposable inserts until we've reached our destination with regular access to laundry facilities and then switched back to cloth inserts at that time. However, others may find it convenient to use disposable inserts the entire duration of their vacation if there is no access to laundry facilities.

Another product to keep it easy while traveling is biodegradable/flushable liners. They allow for easy diaper clean-up when you're traveling and away from your diaper sprayer at home. These liners allow solids to be easily dumped into any toilet and flushed.

If you are concerned about an open container of laundry detergent in your luggage. . .or that customs may be taking a closer look at you since you have a container of white powder in your luggage. . .then sample sizes of detergents are what you are looking for. Several companies offer sealed sample packs and since they are pre-measured it's easy to figure out how much detergent to take.

Remember to take a few wetbags as you'll need a couple for your diapers and one for your swimsuits and wet towels. Escaping Canadian winters is fantastic, and using cloth diapers is still possible during your escape with the easy tips we've shared above.
